“The job I was doing, the owner closed down when COVID hit,” David says. Despite applying for nearly 100 jobs, none came with an offer. “I lost my house because I couldn't make mortgage payments. Then, I was homeless.”

Those were scary days, David recalls, “Always wondering where my next meal is going to come from, where I can stay dry if the weather is bad, where I'm going to sleep and if it's safe or not.”

Then David's health collapsed. In agony because of pain in his legs, he found himself in a local hospital. Two weeks of care saw him recovered enough to be released, but not recovered enough to return to life on our city streets.

A social worker found David a bed at Scott Mission and that was a true turning point. “I was almost in tears,” he says, knowing it was a gift from God that he'd found the safe refuge he needed to fully recover.

“Thank God for Scott Mission . . . I could be dead. That's how serious it gets on the street.”
